Holiday Gift Catalog
"It is an honor for us to share with you this Gift Catalog filled with several special and unique wine and food gifts that represent a culmination of four decades of work in the wine and food industry." - Doug Margerum
For the last twenty-one years, the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, on the western edge of Santa Barbara County, has rapidly become one of the definitive places to grow Pinot Noir in California. Because of its diverse, marine-based soils, ocean winds and refrigerated-sunlight climate, the Sta. Rita Hills has keenly proven able to make world-class wines. This trio of Barden’s best Pinot Noirs will sure to tantalize any Pinot Noir connoisseur.
Enjoy a six-bottle vertical of Margerum Wine Company’s signature red wine, our M5 Red Rhône Blend. Twenty-one years ago, Doug Margerum set out to make this one wine based upon his love affair with the rustic and savory red wines from the south of France. M is for Margerum and 5 is for the five different red grapes that make up this blend each year. While the final blend changes each vintage, it is always Grenache and Syrah dominant, with Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Counoise rounding out and completing the wine. We recently did an eighteen-year vertical tasting and we were more than delighted with how well the wines are aging.

While the Sta. Rita Hills has certainly built a reputation for making world-class Pinot Noir, we are equally enamored with the cold-climate Syrah from the region. The daily winds and refrigerated-sunlight climate create Syrah that are completely cerebral and more fascinating than their louder, bombastic cousins from around the state. They are far savory, fruit driven and loaded with black brambleberry, Mediterranean nuances of olive, thyme and saline, slightly brooding, very dark and intense. These are amazing examples of how thought-provoking and compelling Syrah can be. This three-pack vertical is a treat for any Syrah aficionado and collector.
Two of our most popular wines are the M5 Red Rhône and M5 Estate White Rhône and they make for an excellent gift for any wine lover. Both wines are inspired by Doug’s goal of replicating the seriousness, charm, complexity and rusticity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape here in Santa Barbara County. The two wines receive terrific press each year and always over-deliver for their price and quality.
Another terrific gift idea is a two-bottle set of our top wines from the Sta. Rita Hills featuring our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Because of the refrigerated-sunlight climate and our deft winemaking skills in the cellar, these two wines showcase the beautiful typicity and terroir of the region and are wines that sit well at the table and over-deliver on their quality and complexity. A classic duo sure to impress any connoisseur.
If Santa Barbara County had a Grand Cru Vineyard, Sanford & Benedict would be at the top of everyone’s list. Planted in 1971 on hard schist and clay, these vines are over fifty-years old and the wines made from this site show their nobility and pedigree. There is a reason why there is a Wait-List to buy this fruit and the two offerings from Barden, which happen to be from one of the best vintages in the last twenty years, are sure to reward those who appreciate beautiful Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
