Pressed after fermentation and matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak barrels before being racked one time to blend for bottling.
A fun pack of deliciousness and spicy fruit surrounded by youthful tannins. The overlying presence of Grenache flavors initially impacts the palate, followed by a finish complete with hints of jam, cocoa and dark berry contributions of Syrah and earthy Mourvèdre. It’s just so delicious.
A fourteen-barrel selection, our Sta. Rita Hills’ Pinot Noir is a wine that ages remarkably. Hand sorted with a percentage whole cluster. A combination of natural (wild) fermentation and Burgundian yeast isolates created for a complex wine, rich with fruit and spice. Aged in new, neutral, and one year old French Oak barrels.

The Margerum Tasting Room is located at the corner of Helena Avenue and Mason Street, across from the Hotel Californian and we thought this would be a fitting name for this Wine Club exclusive bottling. This is a blend of 40% Syrah and 60% Grenache inspired by the always fascinating Côtes du Rhônes from the south of France. Fruit is sourced from several top Santa Barbara County vineyards from growers and vineyards we know.
This new bottling of Mourvèdre is another direct result of having our own vineyard property. Planted at the very top of the hill on limestone, on less than an acre, is this little known but remarkable grape. Traditionally, Mourvèdre is a blending grape and utilized in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and forms the core of legendary Château de Beaucastel.
Color: Dark purple-red and black hues.
Aroma: Dark black fruits, feral, ethereal and spicy.
Palate: Rich and expansive on the palate, good tannins, and mouth-filling structure with a fascinating balance between dark fruits, black berries, with leathery and earthy notes.
As avid producers, fans and consumers of Grenache based wines, we are constantly reminded how the various terroirs in Santa Barbara County produce such exciting examples of this noble grape. It is as if Santa Barbara Wine Country is the perfect home for the varietal outside of France, and in our opinion, rivals the inherent qualities that make Pinot Noir so beguiling, beautiful and age-worthy.
Once Doug Margerum secured the Estate Vineyard in Los Olivos, we eagerly planted several different red and white Rhône varietals and selections. On the steep rocky hillsides, we thought we could make some exceptional wines from Syrah and Grenache and planted less than one acre of the unique Alban Clone. This is our 2nd release of the Estate Grenache and hope you find it as compelling and rewarding as we do.
Full bodied and refined, rich, with blueberry and dried fruits. Concentrated juicy mid palate encompassed by cola and sweet fruit. Complex integrated tannins complete the framework. The density, texture and depth of this wine are a testament to the quality of the vineyard. The finish is long and lingering with appealing notes coffee and vanilla.
Color: Dark opaque and black hued.
Aroma: Explosion of deep red fruit aromas with hints of wood and briar patch.
Peak: Drink this wine now or age it up to ten years or longer.
The Margerum Tasting Room is located on Mason Street across from the Hotel Californian and we thought this would be a fitting name for a Wine Club exclusive wine. This is only our 3rd release and this year it is 100% Syrah made from top cool-climate vineyards in Santa Barbara County. Selected barrels from our cold cellar were chosen for their bold yet approachable character. The wine is aged in French oak to produce a rich, complex wine. This wine pairs well with big full-flavored foods like grilled meats, hearty stews, BBQ and richer fattier fish like tuna and salmon.
